From a hardscrabble childhood on the shores of Lake Muskoka, Paul MacPherson rose to become a leading Canadian businessman, a popular professor, and a generous philanthropist who believed education had the power to transform lives.


Having left high school before graduation, MacPherson completed a special preliminary year at McMaster University in order to pursue higher education. He graduated from McMaster with a Bachelor of Arts in geography in 1952, and landed a job with Imperial Oil.
